1808 West Quoddy Head Light Keepers Cottage

Our reconstruction of the 1808 West Quoddy Head Light Keepers House has been successfully completed. The Keepers Cottage exterior has been built to the original 1808 specifications for materials, construction details and size. The interior, finished in the manner of early 19th Century Downeast Maine, has comfortable accommodations for 4 people, with 2 Queen bedrooms, living/dining room, kitchen and bath.

The initiative of the interior design is to maximize the limited space in which early Light Keepers lived. Appropriate to the Keepers Cottage frugal Downeast heritage, functional shipbuilding techniques and layouts are utilized. The furnishings include antique brass lighting fixtures, chairs, sofa, table, built-in benches, shelves and pegboards. We utilized well-pigmented Early American primary colors of red, blue and yellow plus a pleasing green on the paneled walls, doors and trim. These strong period colors set off the white board ceiling of the main room. The wide board floors are stained dark to support the interior finish details.

The Keepers Cottage is now open for guests. You first view the privately located Cottage by going down its spruce-lined gravel driveway. Approaching, you begin to see great panoramic views over the water to Lubec, Eastport and Campobello. To the east is a glimpse, over mowed fields, of an old red barn, then the circa 1930 U.S.C.G. Boathouse, 2 lighthouses and western views with sunsets over the bay. As with all of the West Quoddy Station complex, there is WI-FI, DirecTV and telephone.
