A Night Out at Water St. Tavern
Last night, cold and clear, Patricia and I went to Water St. Tavern, now open on a limited basis until the end of December. We went with my old friend, Suzannah Gale, the owner of The Homeport Inn on Main St., Lubec. Suzannah and I recounted Lubec’s growth in lodging since 2000. We all met several friends whom we had not been in touch with since last summer—much merriment.
December Reservations and International Visitors
December reservations remain strong into January. This week, we had 5 guests from Ecuador and 2 guests from Switzerland hitting the 4 extreme compass "most" points in the USA. Today, a guest called from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, to reserve before starting his 7-hour trek to West Quoddy Station.
Future Lubec Residents Stay at West Quoddy
Interestingly, we had three separate couples who stayed as guests for the same purpose. While they did not know each other, they had all bought property in Lubec that needed construction and/or remodeling. They each stayed for 5-6 nights and will be back in a few weeks.
Lighthouse Updates and Restoration Progress
John Cox, my builder and friend for 25 years, continued framing my lighthouse, Clark’s Folly. John and his crew have done all the restoration and new construction here at West Quoddy Station. This week, we changed the lighthouse roof from flat to hip-roofed. With red shingles, this will complement the three original USCG buildings on the National Historic Register that are hip-roofed and red-shingled.
A Delicious Evening with Friends
Homemade pizza at Teri and Rusty’s tonight. Always the best! And we get to see Paisley, a most lovely Australian Collie, and Finn [Phineas] the cat. Paisley and Finn are inseparable—best friends.
